Life support or not: check this before choosing

“Ventilator” covers machines built for quite different patients. Of the ones on this page, only the Luisa is listed as a life-support ventilator. The prisma VENT 50 / 50-C supports invasive and non-invasive ventilation, yet its own listing describes it as non-life-support. The prisma VENT 30-C and VENT 40 listings don't call themselves life-support either.

If the patient cannot breathe without the machine — ventilated round the clock through a tracheostomy, say — tell the doctor exactly which model you are being offered and let them confirm it is suitable before anything is paid for.

The Luisa supports invasive (tracheostomy) and non-invasive ventilation, and high-flow therapy on the same circuit. On rental it is supplied only against a doctor's prescription. Luisa details

Portable ventilator for home, and for hospital use

At home

“Portable” on a ventilator means two things: light enough to move, and able to keep running off the mains. The prisma VENT 40 is 2.4 kg (3.03 kg with its battery) and the Luisa 3.8 kg. The Luisa works upright or lying flat, so it sits on a bedside table, a wheelchair or in a travel bag.

In hospital

Every listing here names both home and clinical use. For wards and step-down beds, the VENT 40 lists an oxygen connection port and PEEP of 4–25 cmH₂O; the VENT 50-C adds high-flow therapy at 5–60 L/min; the Luisa switches between ventilation and high flow without changing the circuit.

Portable ventilator on rent

When a patient goes home on a ventilator straight from hospital, nobody yet knows how long the machine will be needed. Renting covers that stretch and leaves the long-term decision to the doctor.

  • Delivery and installation in Chennai by our respiratory therapist
  • Family and home-nurse training before we leave: daily use, cleaning, circuit changes, alarms
  • Technical support 24×7 on the phone; if a fault can’t be fixed on site, a replacement machine
  • Circuits, masks and other consumables quoted separately, to the prescription

Can you buy a ventilator for home use?

Yes — you can buy one from us outright. What we need before anything else is the prescription, because it decides the model and everything our therapist sets on it: mode, pressures, backup rate and alarm limits.

From there we match the prescription to a machine on the list above, deliver it and, in Chennai, install it at the bedside. The therapist enters the prescribed settings, checks the circuit and the mask or tracheostomy connection, and trains the family on daily use and alarms. After that you have one number to call when something looks wrong.

The machine is not the only cost. The room has to be ready too, and nursing is separate: daily nursing isn't part of what we supply, though we can coordinate with home-care partners.

What the room needs besides the ventilator

  • A room with stable, earthed power points — avoid extension boards where possible
  • A UPS or inverter sized to the ventilator’s power draw, plus surge protection
  • Space for caregivers on both sides of the bed, away from curtains, dust and direct sun
  • A spare circuit, filters and mask kept at the bedside
  • A pulse oximeter, and a suction machine if the patient needs secretions cleared
  • A logbook for settings, alarms and anything the doctor changes

Train at least two family members, not one. We can advise on battery backup capacity for your model and help arrange a suitable UPS.
