Polysomnography Machine Price in India

When a hospital asks us for the polysomnography machine price in India, the straight answer is that a PSG system does not have one price. It is quoted to a configuration: which sleep study levels you will run, how many signals you record, whether you watch on video, how many beds you equip and who will score the studies. This page explains each of those, shows where Sonata, Scala, SAMOA and prismaLAB fit, and ends with a form for a written quotation built on your answers.

Why we don’t publish a PSG machine price

Search for “PSG machine price” and you will find single figures. They are rarely useful, because the same model name covers very different set-ups. The Sonata PSG price varies with its configuration, the channels you need and the software licence. A pulmonologist who wants to screen for sleep apnea at home needs a 12-channel polygraph. A neurology department that wants to catch nocturnal seizures on video needs full EEG, synchronised video and a monitoring station.

A price list that ignores this either over-quotes the first buyer or under-quotes the second. So we quote in writing, after we know what you will use the system for. GST is added to the quoted price.

Sleep study services vs machines

If you are a patient looking for the cost of a sleep test rather than a machine, our sleep study test page lists the price of each study level in Chennai.

Levels of polysomnography, and which machine does each

Sleep studies are graded by how many signals they record and whether a technician is present. The level you plan to offer decides the machine, and the machine decides most of the price.

Level 1

Attended in-lab polysomnography

Records
EEG, EOG and chin EMG to stage sleep, plus ECG, leg EMG, nasal and oral airflow, thoracic and abdominal effort, SpO₂, snoring and body position.
Where
In the sleep lab, with a technician watching the signals through the night.
On price
The highest configuration: the full electrode set, a monitoring station, usually video, and scoring software, often with a titration device at the bedside.
Level 2

Unattended polysomnography

Records
The same signal families as Level 1, EEG included, so sleep can still be staged.
Where
Usually at the patient’s home, with no technician present overnight.
On price
The recorder is still a PSG system. What changes is the setting: no lab bed and no night shift, but a full hook-up before the patient goes to sleep.
Level 3

Polygraphy / home sleep apnea testing

Records
Cardio-respiratory signals: airflow, respiratory effort, SpO₂, pulse, body position and snoring. No EEG.
Where
At home or on a ward, often fitted by the patient or a technician in the evening.
On price
The lowest entry point into sleep diagnostics. Fewer sensors and simpler software, so the machine and the cost per study are both smaller.

Level 4

One or two signals, usually oximetry. It is a screening tool rather than a sleep study system, and none of the machines on this page is a Level 4 device.

Titration nights: prismaLAB

prismaLAB is not a recorder. It is the lab CPAP / APAP / BiLevel device that sits at the bedside when a technician sets a patient’s therapy pressure, and it feeds up to 8 analog signals into the PSG. Budget for it if your lab will titrate. See prismaLAB

What decides the cost of a polysomnography machine

These are the lines that move a PSG or sleep study system quotation up or down. If you are comparing two quotations, check that both cover the same lines.

  1. 1

    Study level and signal set

This is the biggest single factor. A 65-channel Sonata recording EEG, EOG, EMG and ECG is a different machine from a 12-channel SAMOA that records breathing, oxygen and position. The Sonata price itself varies with configuration, channel requirement and software licence, which is why two “Sonata” quotations can differ.

  2. 2

    Attended in-lab, or portable

An attended lab needs online recording to a monitoring station, so the technician sees every channel live. Portable studies are recorded offline and downloaded the next morning. Scala does both, and has an optional WLAN variant for wireless transmission; options like that appear as separate lines on a quotation.

  3. 3

    Video and audio

Synchronised video is what lets you see a parasomnia or a seizure next to the EEG that recorded it. Sonata records synchronised video, Scala records time-synchronised video and audio, and SAMOA records audio and video in online mode. Cameras and video software add to the quotation.

  4. 4

    Software and scoring

Sonata’s software follows the AASM manual for electrode setup, digitisation and scoring. Ask how many workstations the licence covers: the acquisition PC in the control room, and any review PC where the physician signs reports.

  5. 5

    Number of beds and recorders

Adding beds does not multiply every line, but each bed needs its own recorder and sensors, and each home-testing slot needs its own device. Your expected patient volume decides this more than anything else.

  6. 6

    CPAP / BiPAP titration

If you plan to titrate patients in the lab, the quotation includes a lab therapy device at the bedside. Sonata integrates with Löwenstein prismaLAB and prismaSMART so pressure and sleep signals are recorded together.

  7. 7

    Sensors and consumables

Some sensors are reusable, others are single-use: nasal pressure cannulas, T-adapters, adhesive and cup electrodes. Sonata is built around durable sensors with low follow-up cost. Ask for the consumables list priced per study, because that running cost does not show up in the machine price.

  8. 8

    Installation and training

With every sleep diagnostics system we supply, we install and calibrate it on site and train your technicians on operation, patient hook-up and the software. If you are building the whole lab, our sleep lab setup service covers room planning as well.

Portable polysomnography machine price: two different things

When a buyer says “portable PSG” they mean one of two systems, and the price gap between them is large. One is a full polysomnograph set up to record away from the lab, which is how we run Level 2 home studies on Sonata. The other is a Level 3 polygraph, Scala or SAMOA, that records breathing, effort and oxygen but not EEG.

Before you compare prices, decide whether you need to stage sleep. If the question is “does this patient have obstructive sleep apnea?”, a polygraph usually answers it. If the question involves parasomnia, narcolepsy or nocturnal seizures, you need EEG, and a polygraph will not do.

Portable full PSG (Level 2)

EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG and respiratory channels. Needs a trained person for the hook-up. Priced as a PSG system.

Portable polygraph (Level 3)

Airflow, effort, SpO₂, pulse, position and snoring. Simple to fit, quick to download. The lowest-cost route into sleep testing.

Comparing polysomnography machine brands

We are an authorised Löwenstein Medical dealer, so the systems on this page are the ones we supply, install and support. We won’t comment on other brands’ prices. What we can tell you is which questions separate a good purchase from an expensive one, whichever brand you buy.

The machine price is a small part of what a sleep lab spends over the years. Software terms, consumables and service in your city matter as much.

  • Does the scoring follow the AASM manual, and can your physician edit and re-score the automatic analysis?
  • How is the software licensed: per workstation, per bed, or for a fixed period?
  • Which sensors are reusable, which are single-use, and what does one study cost in consumables?
  • Who installs it, who trains your technicians, and who services it in your city?
  • Can the PSG record signals from the CPAP or BiPAP you will use for titration?
  • Where do replacement sensors come from, and how quickly can you get them?

Pricing a whole sleep lab, not just the machine?

The recorder is one line. A lab also needs a quiet room, a monitoring station, trained technicians, a physician to report and a plan for CPAP follow-up. Our guide on how to start a sleep lab goes through each of these, and our turnkey sleep lab setup service plans, supplies, installs and trains in one project.

PSG machine price: questions hospitals ask us

There is no single price, which is why we do not print one. A PSG system is quoted to a configuration: the study levels you will run, the channel set, video, software licences, the number of beds and recorders, and whether titration is included. Send us those details through the form on this page and we will send a written quotation. GST is added to the quoted price.
