Most people with sleep apnea start with a CPAP machine. But for patients with central sleep apnea, complex sleep apnea, or sleep apnea combined with COPD — a standard CPAP is not enough. These patients need a BiPAP ST ventilator like the Prisma 30ST.

Central Sleep Apnea (CSA)

The brain fails to send signals to the breathing muscles, so the patient stops breathing during sleep even without any airway blockage. CPAP cannot fix this. The Prisma 30ST backup rate triggers a breath automatically when no spontaneous breath occurs.

Complex Sleep Apnea

Starts as obstructive sleep apnea but develops central apnea events on CPAP therapy. The Prisma 30ST BiPAP-ST mode resolves both the obstructive and central components simultaneously.

Sleep Apnea with COPD — Overlap Syndrome

Patients have both sleep apnea and COPD. They need higher pressures, better CO₂ clearance, and a backup rate — all provided by the Prisma 30ST BiPAP-ST ventilator.

High CPAP Pressure Intolerance

Some patients cannot tolerate high CPAP pressure. The Prisma 30ST‘s lower EPAP makes exhalation far more comfortable while maintaining effective therapy.

• Spontaneous mode — When the patient breathes in, the Prisma 30ST delivers IPAP pressure to keep the airway open. When breathing out, pressure drops to comfortable EPAP.
• Timed backup mode — If the patient stops breathing (apnea event) and does not take a breath within the set time, the Prisma 30ST automatically delivers a breath. Critical for central and complex apnea.
